DESCRIPTION:Charm\, magic and mystery are the main features of the celebrations of Saint Lawrence’s day\n\n\n\n\nThis commemoration is linked with the old popular celebrations held in the city. An old poster from 1888 invited people to the ‘traditional’ Saint Laurence celebrations with bingo\, fireworks\, air balloons and dancing. On August 10\, by tradition\, farmers used to go to the beach carrying the whole family in their wagons. They used tents as a shelter from the sun and spent there the whole day. It’s a 19-century holiday and at that time people believed in the therapeutic effects of bathing in the sea. They even washed their cattle in the sea. \nCharm\, magic and mystery are the main features of this celebrations\, ending in a fireworks display on Cervia’s public beach. A particularly suggestive night-time swim in the sparkling sea filled with phosphorescent algae\, under the shooting stars is a must. Besides\, according to the popular tradition\, a swim taken on Saint Lawrence’s Day is worth seven and has special therapeutic benefits.
