Children’s Natural Rights Park

The Cervia Natural Rights Park is a ‘Lento’ park.

Freedom, play, beauty. A space for experiencing what it means to be human. The new park dedicated to children’s rights in the Pinarella–Tagliata pine forest. If you take a lovely walk along the Pinarella–Tagliata pine forest, you cannot fail to notice the aftermath of the 2015 storm surge: many trees have fallen, and the pine forest, once dense and shady, bears enormous scars. The "Park of Children’s Natural Rights" was created to support the restoration of this part of pine forest. In the clearings created by fallen trees, the Municipality of Cervia has created, based on a design by the architect Aida Morelli, a park inspired by the Declaration of the Natural Rights of Girls and Boys by the educationalist Gianfranco Zavalloni. Divided into six thematic areas is enhanced by play-based and relational installations inspired by UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Adolescents and to Cervia – A Child-Friendly Town. Everyone can play in the park, during all seasons, offering an experience that combines active citizenship (or “contadinanza”, to quote Zavalloni) with creativity, free play and exploration. Parco Lento is a journey into the a changing landscape, where you can tune into the rhythms of this transformation. Through games designed to be played together, freely and inclusively by everyone, here you can to put on standby or, on the contrary, to run, leaving let their senses run free. You can embrace the sounds, to capture the nuances of the vegetation what changes, the smells the salty air mingling with that of the pine forest, the light that of the sun and that of the moon.

The Park’s play installations are designed on the premise that urban quality for children consists of real-life experiences: spaces and times for free movement and for the game, educational activities in a healthy environment, offering the cultural and creative opportunities necessary for personal development and participation, linked to “the ”naturalness’ of our relationship with the environment.

These design installations freely create a A dialogue with the Pinarella Pine Forest and Tagliata, whilst at the same time serving as catalysts for natural rights through play, engaging children in a magical, imaginative, empathetic and innovative way.
